ENGLISH

Riccardo Murelli is a versatile artist usually working with metals ( iron, steel, corten, inox), but in recent years he started to develop projects also with wood, especially in eastern Europe and Russia. After studying Philosophy and Anthropology, his sculpture career started in 1996 by assisting international sculptress Beverly Pepper. His work develops through the combination of several techniques: etching, collage, drawing, painting and sculpture. Alternating analogical instruments with the high technology means of the latest generation, he explores the results of this combinations to create works and thus he combines past and present, and alternates single art works with site specific installations. He focuses on sensory experiences and on how you can cross a sculpture with the look or with the body. Based on geometrical shapes, Murelli’s works open a discourse about the rhythm of human life as an allegory and he has progressively focused on the concept of transparency, on bidimensional and threedimensional, on the mega and the micro. He collaborated with design firms such as Natuzzi, Molteni&C and Minotti, he created sets in collaboration with filmmakers, studying how to incorporate sculpture into architecture andhe lately worked as anactor in the last film of AES+F. He currently lives between Todi and Moscow (RUS).
